Lots of voters will turn up at General Elections to vote Democratic, but when it comes to Primary Elections sometimes they don’t make the effort. That’s a real shame because it’s important for Democrats to be involved in the process at every level.
To encourage participation in the June 17 Democratic Primary, LOW Dems and the Orange County Democratic Committee plan to send out hundreds of personal postcard messages urging Democratic voters to “Defy Expectations” and vote in large numbers.
There will be a Postcard Party from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 22 at Fareways Cafe in Lake of the Woods. Postcards and address stickers will be provided. The LOW Dems will provide some postage, but volunteers may want to buy stamps on their own as a contribution to the health of our Democracy.
The pre-printed postcards also contain key dates leading up to the June 17 Primary and links to information about our candidates for statewide office, voting registration, polling places and applications to vote by mail.
If you can’t attend the May 22 session, but you’d like to do your part, contact Jeanne Allen at jeanneallen123@gmail.com and ask for a stack of postcards to write at home.
It’s so important that Abigail Spanberger be Virginia’s next governor and that she has a strong team to help her resist the misguided Republican assault on our rights in the Old Dominion.
Volunteers who want to support the effort to turn out the Democratic vote in Lake of the Woods will have an opportunity from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the Trophy Room in the Woods Building.
Hundreds of hand-written postcards are being written and mailed to residents encouraging them to vote in the Nov. 5 election. Many of them were prepared at a club meeting on Oct. 10, but there are still many left to be written and mailed.
The club has purchased more than 1,000 postcards printed with the message, “Freedom, Hope, Progress for Lake of the Woods.” They are being sent to friends and neighbors throughout the neighborhood.

Vice president — Tim Walz
“Our nation is defined by an unshakable belief that we, the people, have the ability to control our destiny. A belief that anyone can reach out and grab opportunity and create a more prosperous future for themselves, their children and their grandchildren.”
U.S. Senate — Tim Kaine
“Like a lot of people, I have been a leader in some things, and I’ve been a follower in some things. I know how to work on a team. And most of life, frankly, to get things done you have to get done, you’ve got to work as a team.”
House of Representatives — Eugene Vindman
“America must remain a refuge for families like mine, where hard work matters, truth prevails, rights are protected, and we are all free to be who we are and pursue our dreams in this land of opportunity.”
