Club to collect food for Thanksgiving dinners

The Lake of the Woods Democratic Club will conduct a food drive for the Lions Wilderness Food Pantry from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, November 6.

Donations of non-perishable food items will be collected across Lakeview Parkway from the security guardhouse at the front entrance of LOW.

The food pantry is preparing to provide Thanksgiving dinners to 70 needy families in Orange County.

In addition to donating food items, community members are encouraged to write checks made out to the Wilderness Food Pantry. These funds will be used to purchase food for these holiday dinners.

The Food Pantry is operated by  the LOW Lions Club and the LOW Lioness Lions Club. The pantry building is located on Route 20 in Locust Grove behind and to the right of the Locust Grove Town Center mall.

Support your club — become an officer!

As we come to the end of another successful year, it is time again to elect new officers for the Lake of the Woods Democratic Club.

We’ll select a chair, a vice chair, a treasurer and various committee and project chairs at the December meeting of the club.

Our club is only as strong as its members are prepared to make it. Give some thought to putting your name forward. You can help make 2022 our best year yet.

To volunteer or ask questions, call Gerri Colucci, chair of the Nominating Committee at 540-972-1731.

Food drive is great success

A great team of volunteers helped make the service project a great success. (Photo by Jennifer Heinz)

The LOW Democrats’ food drive Monday yielded 3,000 pounds of food and $420 in cash donations. Another 1,100 pounds of food was collected in a Orange Democratic Committee drive at the Love Outreach. Fantastic! The Lions Wilderness Food Pantry folks said they were blown away by the collection, and the shelves there were jammed full with more left to shelve. A great day of service! Thank you to all!

National Day of Service to benefit food bank

Please pitch in and help restock the shelves of the Lions Wilderness Food Pantry by donating non-perishable food items on Monday, January 18 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The collection location will be in the security parking area by the front gate of Lake of the Woods.

Current needs include canned fruits and vegetables, Hamburger Helper, hearty soups and crackers, juice, condiments, boxed cereal, macaroni and cheese, and pudding or fruit cups. They have adequate supplies of rice at this time, so that is not needed.

President-elect Biden has incorporated the Martin Luther King Day National Day of Service into his inaugural activities and we are proud to be part of it.

This food drive is being held in concert with the Orange County Democratic Committee, which is sponsoring a food drive on the same date and time in Orange at the Love Outreach Food Pantry.
