Make holiday luncheon reservations now

The Lake of the Woods Democratic Club’s 2022 holiday luncheon will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, December 9, in The Irish Pub at the Old House Winery, 18351 Corkys Lane, Culpeper, Va.

The cost is $27 per person, which includes a choice of entrees, dessert and coffee. A cash bar will be available at the venue.

Holiday music will be performed by Deb Everett and Wendy White.

Reservations must be made by December 1. Payments can be made online by clicking the button below or by sending a check made out to the LOW Democratic Club to P.O. Box 1351, Locust Grove, VA 22508.

Considering religion, politics

Rick Clore

The speaker for the October meeting of the Lake of the Woods Democratic Club is Rick Clore, a retired Baptist minister who has volunteered to work with the Youth Democratic Club at Orange County High School.

Rick also serves on the Executive Committee of the Orange County Democratic Committee.

He will lead a discussion on religion and politics, offering some insight on the recent surge of Christian nationalism.

The October Club meeting will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 12 in Classroom 2 at the LOW Community Center. The doors open at 1 p.m.. The program will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Tips to make us safer

Jeff Liebolt, John Farrell and Jack Kelley, representatives of the Lake of the Woods Volunteer Fire and Rescue Co., receive a check for $100 from Valerie Smallwood of the LOW Democratic Club. The three speakers presented a program at the club’s Sept. 14 meeting on preventing fires and falls in the home and recognizing the signs of stroke. Their appearance was part of the squad’s risk-mitigation program.

Home safety is topic of Sept. 14 meeting

John Farrell of the Lake of the Woods Fire and Rescue Company will present a program on keeping homes safe from fire and preventable accidents at the Sept. 14 meeting of the LOW Democratic Club.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. with a social period in Meeting Room 2 at the LOW Community Center. The program will begin at 1:30 p.m.

The LOW fire and rescue volunteers provide emergency services to homeowners in Lake of the Woods and the surrounding counties of Orange, Spotsylvania, and Culpeper.

The public is welcome to attend the presentation, regardless of political association.
