Send postcards to voters

The Orange County Democratic Committee has ordered 1,000 postcards and needs help to get them in the mail on Sept. 16 in time for the first day of early voting on Sept. 23.

If you are willing to help address cards, Elaine Freeland needs to hear from you by Wednesday, Aug. 24. There is no charge for the cards, but you must provide the 44-cent postage. You will be given a list of registered voters and their addresses.

This postcard effort is in conjunction with Rural Ground Game, an organization whose headquarters is the Shenandoah Valley. It is dedicated to the support, training, and development of rural Democratic candidates, campaigns and committees.

Contact Elaine at elaine.freeland@verizon.net.

By the way, in accordance with LOWA regulations, you can put your Abigail sign in your Lake of the Woods yard on Friday, Sept. 9. If you need a yard sign, request it on the Spanberger for Congress website and the sign will be delivered to you.

Poll workers needed on Election Day

Having poll workers at all the polling places where Lake of the Woods voters cast their ballots will help insure a smooth and reliable election process. Volunteers are needed to represent the club at four precincts. We want to be covered from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Nov. 3.

All precautions will be taken to insure that workers are protected from exposure to COVID-19, but because of the increased risk for elderly and compromised people, young, healthy volunteers are especially needed.

This is your opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way to the democratic process.

If interested, please email the LOW Democrats at webmaster@lowdemocrats.org.

Stuff this in stocking near you!

Make sure your favorite Democrat (or independent or even Republican) wakes up Christmas morning and finds one of these handsome ceramic mugs in his or her stocking.

The colorful Lake of the Woods Democrats mug is perfect for hot coffee, hot tea or hot cocoa. Fill one with candy or use one as a pencil holder or to collect pennies. It comes in handy when crying over spilt milk or even  for crying in your beer.

Many of these attractive mugs have been sold for $5.00, but during this special holiday sale, you’ll pay only $4.00 — a 20 percent savings! At this price, you’ll want to buy several.

These mugs are not available in stores. The mugs can be purchased at the LOW Democrats’ annual Christmas luncheon on Dec. 6 or by contacting Nel Meador at 972-3043.

The club’s new brochure is ready for distribution

A revised brochure, explaining the purpose and activities of the club, has been prepared in time for distribution at the annual Flag Day Membership Picnic on June 15 and the Fourth of July activities at Clubhouse Point on July 2.

The brochure is a color trifold and includes a statement of the Democratic vision, a description of club activities and an invitation to prospective new members. It also prominently advertises our Web site and Facebook presence.

The color document is also available online in the “Documents” section of this Web site. Extra copies can be downloaded and printed by members when there is an opportunity to spread the good news about our club.
