Ann Ridgeway to speak at annual picnic

The annual Flag Day Picnic, sponsored by the Lake of the Woods Democratic Club, will feature an appearance by Ann Ridgeway, candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates from the 30th District.

The picnic will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 12 in Marion Pronk Hall at the Lake of the Woods Community Center. Admission is $10 per person.

A fried chicken dinner with potato salad, baked beans and a variety of other side dishes and desserts will be served. There will be a drawing for patriotic door prizes.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the campaign to elect Ann Ridgeway to the Virginia House of Delegates. Attendees are encouraged to make private donations to her campaign. Checks can be made payable to “Ridgeway for Delegate.”

Ann, a native of Fredericksburg, was instrumental in the establishment of the Orange County Youth Commission and the Orange County Youth Council, working with a start-up research grant and a core group of citizens to create these vital public resources. She has served as a substitute teacher with the Orange County schools, on the board of the Orange County Fair, and on a Virginia board focusing on teenage alcohol concerns. 

She and her husband, Michael, live in Madison County.

Election Day is Nov. 5.

Abigail shows Brat what a leader looks like

The pundits agree that Abigail Spanberger was far more convincing on the issues that Dave Brat in Oct. 15’s debate at Germanna Community College in Culpeper. We wish we could look forward to more debates, but Brat lacks the courage to risk embarrassing himself a second time. If you missed the debate, watch the video below. May we suggest that every time you hear Brat mention the name of a certain great Democrat, you donate a dollar to Abigail’s campaign?

About 130 people attended the rally Aug. 11 to support Abigail Spanberger’s election to Congress. The event was sponsored by the club in cooperation with the Democratic committees of Orange, Spotsylvania and Culpeper counties.

Annual picnic is June 7 at Community Center

This year marks the 240th anniversary of the adoption of the United States flag on June 14, 1777 by the Second Continental Congress.

The Lake of the Woods Democratic Club will celebrate the birth of Old Glory at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, at its annual Flag Day Picnic at the LOW Community Center.

Ben Hixon, the Democratic candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates from the 30th District, will be special guest speaker at the picnic.

Everyone is welcome at the picnic without regard to political affiliation.

There will be fried chicken and a variety of homemade side dishes, desserts and beverages.

Tickets are $7 per person. Children under the age of 12 are admitted free.

There will be a door prize and a raffle on a beautiful throw.
